American Idol Review 12

I've been lazy the past 2 weeks!!!

Just to comment, I was shocked that Melinda went last week. Shocked.

On to this week... I will be even more shocked if Blake wins the whole thing. Jordin was amazing tonight. I think Blake will end up with some kind of career, but Jording just blew him away with her vocals.

The last song, in fairness to Blake, was absolutely a gushy, touching ballad that is really better suited towards Jordin's type of voice/singing. She had an advantage there, but she just sang it beautifully. Randy is right, Blake is the better entertainer, and Jordin is the better vocalist.

On another note, was Randy Jackson channelling Michael Jackson tonight? What was he wearing????? That jacket was hideous!
And....what kind of painkillers is Paula on? Tripping over your tiny dog & just about breaking your nose has got to hurt. She was totally drugged up & her lips looked very swelled. Is it me or do we think maybe she's had a little botox or something? She seemed very stiff.

So, to wrap it up, I think that Jordin is going to win the whole thing. If she doesn't, I'll be very surprised. (I voted for her 20 times.)

American Idol Review 11

Then there were four!

Each contestant had 2 songs (thankfully). I love the BeeGees & had very mixed feelings about last night. All in all, I think Jordin ran away with it! She's just amazing.

Melinda...I didn't love her tonight like I usually do. I liked the second song better than the first. Very good choice & she didn't change it too much. If I had to place her tonight, she would be in 2nd place.

Blake...I really like Blake, so I hate what I have to say. I think he may go this week. First of all, "You Should be Dancin'" is such a well known song, that it really shouldn't be messed with too much. I loved how he changed a well-known song last week, but I don't think it worked this week. I also think that it didn't showcase his singing too much. I heard the backup singers more than him. The second song was better, but I don't think people can relate to it because they don't know it. I agree with Randy that he doesn't need to add BB to every song. This song did not need it at all.

LaKisha...I kind of liked her version of Stayin' Alive. I liked the syncopation that she added. I do agree the tempo could have been closer to the original. Her second song was ok. As I'm thinking about it now, I can't remember what it was, so that may say something. I do remember her voice cracking at the end. I hope she doesn't go this week, but I think she is vulnerable.

Jordin was great. On her first song, she was very controlled & it was a perfect choice for her. For her second choice, I thought it showcased her voice well. I disagreed with the judges for the most part. It didn't sound "pitchy" to me, as Randy said. I see what Simon is saying about it being a little old-fashioned for her, but I thought she did really well. She's staying this week. I thnk she took first place tonight.

So, if I had to guess, it will be Blake, possibly LaKisha. I think Melinda & Jordin are safe.

American Idol Results05.02.07

Wow! Are we in the month of May already??? AI tickets go on sale May 19th for the summer tour!

Anyway, am I good or what? I said Chris & Phil. It's going to be a woman this year, I think. I don't think Blake can outlast the 3 powerful women on the show. But then again, he's really more a pop star than they all are. These next few weeks are going to be interesting & heartbreaking! Can't wait to see how it will turn out.

What are we going to do after these next 4 weeks? Oh, I know! Wait for the 2nd season of "So You Think You Can Dance" to begin!

American Idol Review 10

Sorry I missed last week. We had some storms and my DVR did not record Idol. I was putting Samantha to bed, so I didn't watch it live. It was a good show I heard.

Onto this week...Bon Jovi!!!! Is it me, or does Jon Bon Jovi get better looking as he ages? He was pretty good as a vocal coach.

I'll just run down the contestants.

Phil. I thought he shouted the whole song & didn't really "work" the song. He doesn't tell the story, just goes for the power. I also thought he was a little ahead of the music somewhere in the middle. Despite my criticism, I thought it was a good choice of song. I was very surprised that Randy & Paula liked it so much. I think he might be one of the 2 going home.

Jordin. The poor thing. She just is not a rocker & completely knows it. She took JBJ's advice, but messed it up. She knew it. I hope she doesn't go home because she is so good. One, it was a hard choice of song, then she started it too low. Anyway, hopefully she'll still be here next week.

LaKisha. She's back! I thought she did a great job, I thought. Great song choice, great execution, great control. She's not going anywhere this week!

Blake. He really took a chance. It's such a popular, well-known song that it could have gone either way. At first, I had doubts about his performance, but I think I liked it. It was a great song choice for him. However, I hated that hair!

Chris. I just think he's wimpy. This could have been a good song choice, but I thought it was boring. I also think that you should know the words to the song for the vocal coach.

Melinda. She did great. Great song choice! I love how she can change her style to whatever she sings. Totally agree with the judges, she had a Tina Turner quality.

I think this week Phil & Chris are going.

American Idol Results04.18.07

Can you hear the choir of angels sing? Hallellujah!!! I actually jumped up and down & screamed! Not too obsessed....

Finally Sanjaya goes home! It is about time.

When I saw Jordin & then Melinda in the same group, I knew he was at least going to be in the bottom 3. When he and LaKisha were the only 2 left, I thought that if she goes home, this is truly an injustice. She did not do very well last night, but her voice & her track record are much better than his. I'm sure she was up there thinking, "If this kid beats me out for American Idol....". You can guess the rest.

Did everyone notice Simon's big smile?? The right person definitely went home tonight. You know that the whole group is relieved that they don't have to worry about him.

Now the real competition can begin!

WOO HOO!

American Idol Review 8

OK, I'm slipping. I completely forgot to blog last night after the show.

Once again, I feel like I should take the 4th judges spot on the show because I have written down comments during the performances that the judges said after the performances.

I'll just go in order, but unfortunately, I can't say anything about Blake & Melinda because a storm knocked out my satellite during the critique of Chris.

Phil did great last night. My exact notes were, He is a natural country singer. He's found his comfort zone. This is the genre for him. Randy then basically said the same thing.

Jordin was amazing as usual. She really worked the song & gave it a tiny bit of an R&B feel. I think she could be the AI, which Simon also said. I'm sure it's very hard to do a strong singer's song. She just did an amazing job. However, could people in the audience that make posters that will be on national TV spell her name right? It's J-O-R-D-I-N!

Sanjaya, Sanjaya. Back to his true form, he really, really was terrible. I swear, I think I could sing that song better & that's not saying much! It sounded like really bad karaoke. He just can't compete with the others. Martina McBride was very diplomatic on her criticism. She mentioned that he isn't singing strong enough & she's right. When he sang some strong notes in last week's song, he really did shine there, but I still think he can't compete. During the song, the judges were discussing something & Randy was kind of laughing. I would love to have been in on that conversation. Simon seemed pretty angry about this whole voting for Sanjaya/the worst thing. He actually said that it was funny at first, but now it's just ridiculous. I heard that he & Randy won't return if he wins. I wonder how true that is. I'm sure they are kicking themselves for letting him through in the first place.

LaKisha was kind of off for me. I felt that she was flat or something because her melody completely didn't work with the background singers' harmony. Hard to do Carrie Underwood. She just didn't do it for me this week & I really want her to do well. If she goes & Sanjaya stays, I may have to boycott the show.

This was not Chris R.'s genre. I thought he was flat in many parts of the song. He did try to give it an R&B spin, as he normally does, but it didn't work for me. I agree with Randy on this one. There wasn't really a connection with the song.

As I said before, I missed Blake & Melinda, so I'll just have to see the recap on the results show.

American Idol Results04.11.07

Haley needed to go. I knew it would be Phil & Haley in the bottom. There was no way that Sanjaya was going home, especially with a performance that was "not horrible", as Simon put it. I really don't disagree this week! Amazing.

American Idol Review 7

OK, OK, I know you're waiting for me to say it, so I'll get it out of the way. Sanjaya actually did pretty well last night. I was waiting for a horrible song, but he really did a pretty good job. I still will not concede that he should be in the competition. He did so poorly so many weeks before that he really and truly should not have had the opportunity to be there on Latin Night.

I think that Blake did the best. He chose the right song & sang it well. I think that everyone else did OK, except Haley & Phil.

Haley just annunciates her words too well. She really needs to be on Broadway or in Disney World playing Cinderella or something. It's not that her voice is bad. She just isn't "gritty" enough to sing those types of songs. She sang "Turn the Beat Around" and words like "going to" in a song are really "gonna". She just can't bring herself to do that and let go.

Phil made a good song choice, but I thought he was flat and made no connection. His voice actually cracked at the end. I think he might go this week.

No one else really did anything spectacular. I think Latin music is hard to sing if you are not Latin or are not used to the music. I think American Idol should dump the Latin music night & replace it with "Viewers Choice". Wouldn't it be great to choose songs for the contestants?

American Idol Results04.04.07

What a crime!!!!!!!

Gina is so much better than Phil and Haley! People just don't understand her. She's the one that really took advice the vocal coaches gave (except Diana Ross's) to heart. I think people are voting for Haley's good looks. She'll never make it as an American Idol.

OK, Sanjaya. We have got to get rid of him!!!! He absolutely cannot hold his own in this competiton. Unbelievable! I just don't even know what to say. Absolutely insane. What is the deal?

American Idol Review 6

Tony Bennett night! I never love the "good, old standards" night, but I kind of liked this one.

I think on the whole most of the contestants picked the right songs, but I still have much to say!

Let's begin with the ones that did well. I think that Melinda, LaKisha, Jordin, and Gina did well. Blake, Chris, Phil, Haley did OK & Sanjaya did horribly as usual.

I agree with Simon that Melinda really can't be criticized. She picked a good song & delivered it well. LaKisha picked a good song, but as Leah & I discussed today, she didn't really listen to Tony Bennett when he said to end on the big note. I really like Jordin's control. It is still hard to believe she's 17. Gina's softer side was refreshing. She looked great & I thought she also had great control.

Now, I really like Blake & I think he'll go far, but I don't think he has the quality of voice required of an AI. Great song choice for him, but I didn't really feel a connection. I didn't think Chris did as well as the judges thought he did. I couldn't really get into it. I totally agreed with Simon that "Night & Day" sounded kind of gloomy. I don't think Phil did horribly, but it wasn't great. I did also agree with Paula on the Frank Sinatra comment. There were parts of the song that definitely had some Sinatra similarities. I actually wrote that down during the performance!
This is the perfect week for Haley. These songs fit her voice perfectly, yet she also disregarded Tony Bennett's advice. She didn't make those notes short. She just did her "Broadway Show" thing. I still get that arrogant vibe from her. If she won, what ever would she record? Show tunes????

Sanjaya gets his own paragraph! He was awful. Unfortunately, he probably won't go home tonight again. His hair was better than last week, but the white leisure suit??????? He is obviously aware of how he is staying on the show (how could he not???). So much so that he actually said, "I am going to really show America that I can sing." His performance sounded like a high school performance, but worse. It was so bad the judges didn't even have any vocal comments/advice.

We'll see what happens tonight. I have a feeling that it will be Phil or Haley. It most likely won't be Sanjaya, as much as it should be!!!

Karen....out! :) (Gosh, that's so last season!)

New Obsession

I've been introduced to Guitar Hero on Playstation. This is bad....really bad!
Now, to many of you I complain about "The Game" that Ashton plays, so I really shouldn't confess any of this!
We stayed up until about 1:30 AM playing. Needless to say, I was very tired this morning!

If you haven't played GH, you should. There's a guitar that you actually play to great songs. Many are old school guitar heavy songs & some are some newer guitar songs. My favorite is "More Than a Feeling", of course, but I can also play a mean Judas Priest song. I'm only on the easy level, but I'm sure with hours of practice I'll move up....

Another game that we've purchased is "Karaoke Revolution: American Idol Edition". Need I say more????? It has Randy & Simon rating your singing. I guess Paula wouldn't get on board. It's really fun. You can choose many songs & make up your fun character. My competitive nature took over any stagefright I had. Last night Ashton & I played for so long, we unlocked "Piano Man" & "Straight Up".

Check them out. I'm sure half of you have already discovered these games, but if you haven't they are worth hours of fun! Thanks for introducing me, Leah!

American Idol Results03.28.07

WOW! What can I say? Chris Sligh is really good, but had a bad night.

I just don't even know what to say about Sanjaya. The song he sang was absolutely unrecognizable. I know Gwen was cringing, as I said before.

OK fans, we need to stop this immediately. Can we at least get him in the bottom three? If we don't do something soon, he's going to be the American Idol. So, we need to vote for everyone else many times. We've got to counteract the "Vote for the Worst" people. I know they are the ones throwing it all off. In fact, I was listening to 105.3 today & Big Dick Hunter(what a stupid name) said he had all his fans voting for Sanjaya and they put in at least 1000 votes. I very quickly e-mailed him & told him he was an idiot, which he is.

I know I'm becoming obsessed, but it's not fair to those who are serious about the competition. Clearly, Sanjaya knows what's going on & is playing right into it. I think I might make a get rid of Sanjaya website tomorrow and spread the word.

Hopefully Chris will get a record deal or something & at least we'll see him on tour.

Keep your fingers crossed for next week!

American Idol Review 5

We're into the top 10! Gwen Stefani proved to be a tough vocal coach. She certainly didn't sugar coat anything!

I was lucky enough to view Idol with a few friends last night, which always gives some extra insight to the contestants' performances.

The people I thought that did well last night were LaKisha, Gina, Phil, Melinda, Blake, and Chris R.

LaKisha and Melinda can definitely tackle Donna Summer songs and make them their own while doing a great job. I really think it's all going to come down to them. Gina was awesome. Great song choice! She definitely listens to the constructive criticism given. I really like that about her. Phil chose the right song & really made it sound great. I liked Blake's version of "Love Song" & I'm glad he showed off his voice & didn't beat box. I agree with Leah, that it could have been a little more up tempo. Chris R. really did a great job with "Don't Speak", I thought. I was worried at first, but I liked the more R&B feeling of the song.

Jordin was just OK for me last night, although the judges loved her. I guess it sounds different in the theater.

Sanjaya was horrible as usual. Don't even get me started on what Matt Lauer called a "fauxhawk". One clue for Sanjaya, if you're going to sing the guest vocal coach's song, you better know the words!!!! When he sang "Bathwater" it was completely unrecognizable to me. I'm sure Gwen was cringing every second of the performance. I swear, if Sanjaya does not go home tonight, I may have to stop watching. (We all know that won't happen.)

Haley just needs to try out for season 2 of "Grease: You're the One that We Want"! She took Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors" and turned it into a Broadway ballad. It's not that she didn't sing well, she just is so forgettable & is not a pop star, if I'm being honest. (Read that last part with a British accent. :) )

Chris, Chris, Chris....I really like Chris Sligh, but he just took on a song that was too difficult for him. It's so rhythmic & syncopated that less than a week's worth of practicing probably wouldn't do it. I hate that because I really like him. I guess they all have their bad moments. Let's hope it isn't his last night.

Two other things...

One, why do they have to end most of the songs with a "Love Boat" arrangement. I can't describe it any other way, but that. They all seem to end the same way & I hate it.

Two, has anyone heard or gotten Elliot Yamin's album? It's great!! Get it!!

Check back after results!!

American Idol Results03.23.07

I'm a little late on my comments for the results show. It took me a bit to "cool off" about Sanjaya. Has everyone in America gone deaf? He absolutely should have gone home this week & should never have sung a Kinks song. I'm sure when the band members (whichever ones are still alive) heard that song they just cringed. The Today show called him the "Comeback Kid". Everyone is talking about how well he did. Am I in an episode of the Twilight Zone? He "sang" the song completely off key. It was awful. Stephanie may not have had her best night, but she is more talented than he is. Now I will have to see him on the tour. Looking on the bright side, that's when I'll be able to get drinks without missing anything!

American Idol Review 4

British Invasion night: ugh! Notice not one person chose a Beatles song. I wonder if that was because they didn't want to touch them or if there's some licensing/copyright issue there. Not my favorite theme night, although I thought Lulu in particular gave some great constructive criticism.

So, I'll go in order and mix good and bad this week.

Haley, I thought was weak. She obviously has trouble making those notes staccato like Lulu suggested. She gets an A for effort, though. She definitely tried to do that. She was off in some places & sounded out of breath. Not my favorite.

Chris R. had great control & picked the right song. I liked how he changed up the song a little to be more contemporary, but didn't lose the melody as so many did last week.

Stephanie did OK. I actually like that song, but I'm not convinced it was the perfect song for her. I have been writing in my notes each week that she has a Beyonce quality to her voice...

Blake was great. I really love how he didn't make the same mistake as last week, but put his spin on the "Time of the Season." Perfect song for him. I agree with Paula; that song could be popular today.

LaKisha made a mistake. She should have taken Lulu's advice about the song choice. She did a great job & was very controlled, but I think the other song was perfect for her.

Phil's song, I hated! He did ok, but I don't like that song & Simon is right, Phil doen't have that "edge" to his voice. I believe he called it grit. Chris Daughtry or Bo Bice could have handled that song well.

Jordin is amazing for any age, but it's insane that she's only 17. Great job with a hard song. Simon's comment was kind of dumb, though. If she made him feel like he should jump off a bridge, then she did her job with the song! It was supposed to be gloomy & depressing. It is called, "I Who Have Nothing"!!!

Do I need to say anything about Sanjaya??? He better go this week. What would ever think he could take on "You Really Got Me?" by the Kinks????? Talk about not having any grit! He should have taken the advice of Peter Noone and sing a more "poppy" song! It was awful & the judges were not that critical about him. Maybe they are trying some reverse psychology on middle America???? I can't have him in the top ten. I absolutely don't want to see him on the tour this summer. Although, if he was there, it would be a good time to go and get drinks....

Gina chose a good song for her personality. She was off in places. Will the rest of America get it? I thought she sounded a little like Cher in a few places. I want to see more of her.

Chris S. picked a great song. I think he did a great job & I'm glad he listened to the criticism last week.

Melinda was amazing. She really worked that song, starting so quiet & sweet in the beginning & then working up to the finale. She is just awesome. I agree with the judges on their comments.

We'll see what happens. OK, the little girl, Ashley, in the audience,,,,that's so me! I was like that as a child & still like that as an adult. I get so emotional over music, etc. that it makes me cry. (Many of you already know this!) I can totally understand that little girl's feelings.

Just a side note, Elliott Yamin's album is out today! It's on iTunes also & is really great!

Check back tomorrow night for recap of results show.

Thursday, March 15, 2007

Answer to the question!

OK, they showed the vote for the worst website on the Today show this morning. Also, Howard Stern is promoting voting for the worst. So, that's the answer to how Sanjaya is getting the votes.

So, what this means to real Idol fans is...VOTE! Make sure you vote several times for your favorites. Or, maybe we should all just vote for everyone except Sanjaya! I don't sound too obsessed, do I? :)

American Idol Results03.14.07

I ask the question again....WHO IS VOTING FOR SANJAYA? Is there some warehouse with a bunch of phones with a million lines that people are manning? I can just picture the headline for the scandal when it comes out... OK, maybe that's a little far-fetched, but there's no way that he got more votes. Too bad Brandon forgot his words last night. I bet if he didn't Sanjaya would have been on the chopping block.

For goodness sake, I could have sung his song better and that's not saying much! Next week, he better go. Unbelievable!

By the way, was it just me or did Diana Ross not sing very well? Maybe it was song choice!

Karen...out. :)

American Idol Review 3

OK, the theme for the night should have been "Forgotton Lyrics and Crazy Arrangements."
I think a subtheme for the night could be Randy's comment, "I don't think it's your best, but it was ok." It was something like that with some other comment about how it didn't sound like her songs. I can't quite remember how he put it. Newsflash, none of these songs should be sung by anyone but Diana Ross (with the exception of Melinda & LaKisha). She's pretty distinctive & no one is going to sound like her.

Where do I start? Good news or bad news? We'll go with the bad news first.

What is up with Brandon? He's a good singer. I think the nerves got to him.
Chris Sligh...I really like him, so I cringed at the syncopated "Endless Love." Hats off to him for trying to do something different with it, although I wrote down that it sounded like Coldplay. I think Randy said the same thing.
Sanjaya just doesn't have it & it is a crime that Sundance didn't have his spot this week. I'm still in mourning over that. I'm not taking my black armband off until Sanjaya goes. :)
Haley did better this week, but still was off-key & we know she forgot words. Simon must have felt badly for her, those comments were so out of character for him.
Blake...I really like him too. Totally agree with Randy, not enough vocals.
Chris R. sounded nervous, but not bad.

Good news next...
Melinda was wonderful as usual. (As I was watching, I jotted in my trusty notebook, "Sounds like Gladys Knight." Simon said the same thing. I still say they need a fourth regular judge....)
Gina chose a good song. I liked it, so I disagree with Randy. She's really strong & I like her attitude.
Phil did better this week. I thought he chose a good song.
LaKisha....WOW. She had awesome control (also written in my notebook before any judges said anything). For those Idol Junkies, you may remember Mikayla Gordon sang the same song during her season. She did an awesome job, I thought. I think that's the song that went on the Idols' soundtrack.
Stephanie...It's hard to believe she's only 19. I thought she had a very "Beyonce" sound tonight. I really like her. I thought it was a good song choice & she was strong. I agree with the judges on waiting for the more up tempo part of the song.
Jordin is amazing for 17. I thought the song sounded a little too "movie soundtrack", but she was still very strong. I think Simon said it sounded, "Gooey."

So, prediction....I think only one goes home now. Is that right? I think it's got to be Sanjaya or Brandon. We'll see.

On another note...has anyone ever heard the word "pronunciate"? Just checking. Get Ms. Ross a dictionary!!!

American Idol Results03.08.07

Are you kidding????? You know what I'm going to say. How did Sanjaya get enough votes to stay in? Sundance is by far the better singer of the two. This is just wrong, wrong, wrong! On the women's side, Haley should be gone. Sabrina is much more worthy of being in the top twelve. What happened??? At least Antonella went home, but I am heartbroken about Sundance. So I predicted one person correctly. I'm losing my touch! More Idol next week.

American Idol Review 2

It's definitely going to be a woman idol this year. They are soooo much stronger than the men! A league above! I also feel that I could be the 4th judge on the show. I take notes while watching ( I know a little obsessive) & as the contestants sing, I write down my thoughts on the song choice, the actual performance, etc. On most, I could read the judges words almost verbatim. Funny. I'll keep waiting for the fourth judge position to become available.

OK, down to business. The men were in a word, boring, last night. The 3 that I liked were the following: Blake, Sundance, & Chris S. Not all perfect performances, but somewhat memorable. Blake chose the correct song for his style, despite some of the off-key parts. I still thought he was true to himself & showed a younger style. (I was also proud of myself when Randy said he didn't know who or what that song was & I shouted to the TV, "It's 3-11!" It made me feel just a little more with it.)
I think Sundance chose a good song, but it wasn't perfect. I hope he'll be in the top 12. I'm sure with a little direction he will really shine. Chris Sligh was the best of the night. He just did a great job with his song. I didn't know what song it was, but I really liked it.
The rest were OK. Sanjaya...I'm going to die of boredom watching him. Don't even get me started on the fact he should not be here this week.... Jared is good, but it's so hard to pick a Stevie Wonder song. Leave Stevie out of it!
I think that Sanjaya and Brandon will go home tomorrow.

A lot more to say about the women. My favorites, and not necessarily in this order, are Stephanie, LaKisha, Gina, and Melinda. Stephanie picked a great song. That is absolutely one of my favorites, whether Chaka Khan or Mary J. sings it. It's just such a great song. Stephanie did a great job putting some of her own touches into it, so I didn't totally agree with the judges on that. I keep forgetting that she is so young with her great stage presence. What do I need to say about LaKisha? She brought tears to my eyes. She has permission to take on Whitney!! Gina was great tonight, I thought. She's very powerful and I really just like her personality. I think she chose a great song tonight. Melinda was truly the best of the night. She has an amazing voice & when she gets on stage, it's like she's playing a role. I just think she's wonderful. I predict her to be one of the top 2, if not the winner.
The rest of the women were pretty good. I just felt that most of them were nothing special, as Randy said, they didn't have the "Yo!" Admittedly, Antonella did better tonight; she definitely picked a better song than previous weeks. Again, how is she still here? She cannot compare to the other strong perfomers. Haley's song was cheesy & not a stand out at all. She strikes me as a Disney World singer or something. Can't you just see her performing as Cinderella or Snow White? She has a good voice, but she is not the American Idol. That will be due to poor song choice. I think that Antonella & Haley will go home tomorrow.

At this point, I'm looking ahead to the top 12 so I can see who will be singing on tour this summer. Hopefully, all my favorites. Until tomorrow night, Karen....out. :)

American Idol Results03.01.07

One question...Who voted for Sanjaya & Antonella??? OK, yesterday I said that no white girl should scat sing, but Leslie is by far the better singer than Antonella. And AJ????? He is by far stronger than Sanjaya. Maybe it was the song. Leslie & AJ sang the same song I just realized tonight. Very different versions, but nevertheless the same song. I am very surprised that Sanjaya & Antonella escaped. Maybe next week. I guess when you think about it, Bucky stayed in last season & made it to the top 10. He should have gone early too. At least Alaina went. I felt bad for Nick. I kind of liked him, but Simon was right, he didn't stand out.

Just a side note, Elliott Yamin's album is released on March 20th. He has one song out now, "Movin' On". I like it. Can't wait to download the whole thing. I just love him!

How is it that whenever I'm in a dressing room, anywhere on the planet, I am next to the size zero girl? Now, obviously, I'm not a size zero & won't ever be....which is fine. However, when you're trying to squeeze into something that looks like it will fit just fine and you hear the scrawny girl in the room next to you yell to the salesperson, "Do you have these jeans in a size 0? The 2 is just falling off of me.", it makes you a little crazy. I am always next to this woman and she always seems to have a stroller with an itty bitty 3 week old baby. I was happy to be a size 6 for about 3 seconds, nevermind a zero. A question to ponder.... How can zero really be a size?

American Idol Review

OK, I thought I would wait until both the boys & girls competed before I had any comments. So, let's start with the boys.

This week, the front runners in my opinion are Chris Sligh, Blake, & Sundance. I thought Chris Sligh did an awesome job. He just really showed his voice off well. I thought Blake chose the perfect song. Jamiroqui is perfect for his personality & voice (and yes, I know who he is, Randy!!!) Finally Sundance!!!! Strong voice, good song choice. It's about time that he showed his true colors.
Speaking of "True Colors", I was disappointed with Brandon because he is really good. That song was so wimpy sounding. He either should have really belted it out or chose a different song. I really want to like Phil, but there is just something cheesy about him. I can't quite put my finger on it. I also really want to like Nick, but he didn't "wow" me. Sanjaya, Sanjaya, Sanjaya....where to begin. I think I will just say, YOU'RE 17!!!! Enough said.

For the girls, I love Gina, Melinda, Jordan, Stephanie, LaKisha, & Sabrina. I think it's fair to say this could be a girl-heavy top 12. Gina chose the right song & I've liked her from the start. I think Simon is a little too hard on her. Melinda was absolutely the best tonight. She is exactly what Simon says, humble & sweet, but super talented. (OK, so he didn't say it quite like that.) Jordan is incredible for 17 or any age for that matter. Her voice reminds me a little of Lisa Tucker from last season. Stephanie was really great, but I'm not familiar with that Beyonce song, so I wasn't catching the similarity to the original. (I guess I'm getting old.) LaKisha did a great job this week. I thought that she made the "Midnight Train to Georgia" her own without going too far. It's pretty hard to not copy a song as well known and to take on Gladys Knight. LaKisha is about the only one that can do it. I think it was hard to top her performance last week. Sabrina definitely has a voice. It will be interesting to see how far she goes.

OK, along with the good must come the bad....Need I say anything about Antonella??? She is going home this week. In her little chat with Ryan before her performance she said this song fit her better. Was she kidding??? A young girl should never sing Celine Dion. Never! Not to mention how off it was. To quote Randy, "It was a little pitchy."

Another thought, white girls should never scat sing. Let's leave that to jazz singers...real jazz singers, like from the 1940's or so. Next, comes poor Alaina. She was just all over the place. She just can't hold her own with Melinda & LaKisha. I feel a little sorry for her. I can't even remember what she sang tonight. It just wasn't that great. I can remember that it was all off key.

Last but not least, Haley. What happened to her saying last week, "I'm going to stick with songs that I think fit me."? She totally took Simon's advice of changing that image & went off the deep end. I think her arrogance last week just put a sour taste in my mouth. She doesn't have a bad voice, just bad song choice.

Advice to the girls: DON'T CHOOSE ANY SONGS BY WHITNEY, CELINE, OR CHRISTINA! I'm sure there are others, but they are escaping me. So, the women I think are going to go home this week are Antonella & Alaina. We'll see. I thought Antonella was going last week & was wrong. Karen...out.
